Home status choices:

1) Verified

Congratulations!
Your home has been verified by Altadena Heritage as being built by E.P. Janes.

2) Probably

Your home is almost certainly a Janes home, all it needs is some documentation to verify it.

3) Possibly

Your home might have a strike or two against it - built (or recorded) in the wrong year, looks like the wrong shape or type - but it might still be a Janes built home. Some research might clear up the mystery.

4) Not

Based on the criteria of when your home was built or that it is very different from Janes built homes it has been determined that it was not built by E.P. Janes.

Your home's status and how to change it

The status of your home is based on several different factors

  1. Research done by Altadena Heritage ('verified' homes)
  2. Visual observation of characteristic Janes Cottage designs ('probably' homes)
  3. Proximity of other Janes Cottages ('possibly' homes)
  4. Date of construction (all homes)

With a little research of public records and documentation you can have the status of you home changed in the archives of Altadena Heritage. Altadena Heritage has index cards listing many details of the homes in in our neighborhood. If Altadena Heritage does not have the records you need they should be able to point you to other resources.

A great resource on this subject is Tim Gregory who has done countless research on Atadena's historical buildings, including the research in the Altadena Heritage archives.
